I am proud to offer the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics Brain Mapping tool as an assessment for children in Parker, Colorado and surrounding areas. This Brain Map Assessment provides parents, caregivers, teachers, case workers, doctors, and therapists (and anyone else who works directly with the child!) support, perspective, and suggested interventions to truly “meet the child where they’re at” in terms of brain function.
When a child experiences mental illness or trauma (in utero exposure, birth trauma, abuse, neglect, etc), his or her brain organizes itself in a disorganized manner – sensory processing issues emerge, emotion regulation is difficult, learning can feel impossible! The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics Brain Map Assessment tool gives a team a window into the brain’s structure, organization and current level of functioning so that a day-to-day plan for health and healing can be established to support a child (and their family!) to feel healthier and happier.
My mentor in this method is Dr. Bruce Perry, Founder of the Child Trauma Academy. Dr. Perry’s work includes pioneering this “whole brain” approach to resolving childhood trauma symptoms. The NMT Brain Map assesses 32 different areas of the brain, providing a clear picture of strengths and deficits along with pages of recommendations to be considered by all adults in a child’s life. From accommodations in the classroom to animal-assisted therapy, there’s sure to be helpful tools provided for the kiddo in need of support to facilitate growth and development.
The Brain Map process involves a 1-2 hour session with primary caregivers and a meeting with the child, when possible. I require a minimum of one phone consult with each primary provider in the child’s life (Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Case Worker, Child and Family Investigator, Teacher, etc). Upon my completion of the report, a “Team Meeting” will be arranged and each team member will receive a copy of the assessment and appropriate recommendations along with my personal explanation of results and suggestions for moving forward for the child.
